How embers works with B2
Every provider is a little different. Here’s exactly what to expect with B2.
Trash, version history and point-in-time restore use Backblaze’s own file versions.
Expiring links you can revoke at any moment, plus folder galleries and links with a password or a download limit.
Write-once Object Lock and legal holds are supported.
- Revoke a share link at any moment, not only when it expires: Backblaze is the one provider that allows it.
- Scoped access keys: create and delete Backblaze keys for one bucket or folder, right from embers.
- Backblaze usage reports read straight from your account’s own report bucket.
Connect B2 to embers
embers uses a master application key, or an application key with Read and Write access.
- In Backblaze, open Application Keys and use your master key, or Add a New Application Key with Read and Write access.
- Copy the keyID and the application key.
- In embers, open the Backblaze B2 tab, click Connect account and paste both.
Tick Save to my embers account to stay connected on every device; saved keys are sealed with AES-256-GCM. To stop access, disconnect in embers and delete the key in B2.

embers and B2, answered
Do my files pass through embers?
No. Uploads, downloads, previews and share links go straight between your browser (or phone) and Backblaze B2. embers signs the requests with your key and never stores your files.
What does embers need from B2?
A master application key, or an application key with Read and Write access. Give the key only the access you want embers to have. If you save it to your embers account, it’s sealed with AES-256-GCM.
Does B2 charge me anything extra?
embers adds nothing to your Backblaze B2 bill: no markup and no per-GB fees from us. Your storage and transfer are billed by B2 at their normal rates.
Can I use B2 with other providers?
Yes. Connect any of the 15 providers embers supports, each on its own tab, and copy files or move whole buckets between them.
